good evening and Welcome to our Title One family night we are so disappointed that you are not able to come into the building to enjoy hot chocolate and cookies for our annual family night so we wanted to make sure that we were able give you a nice tree before this winter break tonight you're going to be able to enjoy two videos the first video is going to be in this Heiser I literacy Cove doing an interactive read aloud she is going to share a great book with does a family and give you some tips on how to help your child as you are doing a read-aloud with your student we have ordered some Scholastic News what you will be able to accept online your teachers will be able to give you information on how to get into those and those are great resources for you to use to do interactive read-alouds at home art video by our art teacher who is going to do a great activity with you to go along with the book that you have heard once you're done with these activities please be sure to click on to the Google form link and sign in so that we know that you were able to attend our sessions again we are missing singing you in the building. We do hope that you enjoy our video tonight thank you so much for attending hello parents my name is Janice Kaiser and I'm currently serving as the literacy coach here at Strada Mia School I've been asked to share with you today and activity called interactive reader which is an activity that you can do your child anytime with any book the nice thing about your writing read aloud while is that you can choose books that are beyond your child independent reading level which means it would be a bullet that they're not here breathing on the road but it's important I would enjoy and that you can share together so I encourage you to try this with your child with that he or she would enjoy having you read to me today the full I'm going to share with you and to demonstrate interactive read aloud via it's called Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes this is a story about a little girl things to Taco 2 years old when the United States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima Japan and it tells the story of her life and what happened to her as a result of that incident enjoy the story I want you to be thinking about and I'm serving the things that I do as I read the story aloud I did notice that I stop periodically to ask questions so want you to notice about how often I stopped to ask questions because we don't want to stop too frequently because that interrupts the story and a primary reason for an R rating is enjoyment so we don't want to spoil the enjoyment of the story but also we you want to make sure that your child is understanding the story we're not going to ask what we call low-level questions Witcher to ask what I call thinking Quest so take note of how often I ask questions and take note of questions that I asked so will we can Sadako and the Thousand paper cranes is based on the life of a real little girl who's this in Japan from 1943 to 1955 she was in Hiroshima with United States Air Force did Adam called to end World War II her Courage by Sadako a heroin to family you've met several people of the family now can you relate to anybody in the family so you would ask her child a question like that and then ask them how everybody because remember I told you that is our thinking questions we don't want quick short answers we want to know your child spanking research tells us they comprehension begins before we read why we ready and after we ready we're going to ask questions to route to make sure that they understand and remember that they are supposed to be throughout the whole story so they related to anyone in the family and how they relate you think from the story things that have been read when you've had time to discuss that you would continue on with the reading is Sadako noise illegal Town her soup and rice began to talk about girls who some background checking or some research look it up on the internet so you've got some more things you can discuss with your phone if you have a good conversation about that the next chapter is Masahiro was wrong she thought the spider had brought good luck and tomorrow she would remind him about that so why here I would probably ask why is Sadako say that the spider had brought good luck what kind of good luck has she experienced that day talk about her day six chapters calls to Tacos Secret it was the beginning of all the ones Sedaka Rusholme with the good news she kicked off her shoes and threw open the door with the bang I'm home I thought it was fixing supper the kids Sadako say purposely things happening I can't even guess the Big Adventure the class to be on the relay team Dance Around The Room daily swinging her book bag just think if we win I'll be sure to get on the team in junior high school next year that was was Taco wanted more than anything at supper Mistresses sake made a long speech about family honor and pride even Masahiro was impressed the doctor was too excited and she just sat there grinning happily I thought of only one thing the relay race she practiced every day at school is she often ran all the way home with Masahiro X her with Mitchell sasaki's big watch the soccer space the doctor speed surprise everyone maybe she trained I will be the best Waters last big day arrived a crowd of parents relatives and Friends gathered at the school to watch the sports events it was so nervous she was afraid or legs wouldn't work at all members of the other team suddenly look taller and stronger than her teammates was the doctor told her mother has he failed mrs. psaki said Sakura Chan to be a little bit of Gray don't worry when you get out there as fast as you can when it was time for the Relay race just do your best mistresses sake said giving to the text Candice ways and will be proud of you the kind words from her parents made the knot and Sadako stomach loosen they love me she thought no matter what at the signal to start Sadako forgot everything but the race would it was her she had tacos heart was still pumping painfully against her ribs when the race was over it was seeing that she first failed trying and dizzy she scarcely heard somebody say you're the same one the bamboo class around is Sadako cheering and shouting she shook her head a few times all winter Sonata try to improve running speed to qualify for the pricing team in junior high she would have to practice every day sometimes after a long run not to tell her family about it try to convince yourself dr. The Secret inside of her she didn't even tell her best friend on New Year's Eve seductive hope she can magically wish away the dizzy spells how perfect everything would be if she didn't have this secret and then she was in her cozy bed quilt when the temple bells began to chime they were ringing out Sadako drowsily made her special the next morning this is Sake family join the crowds of people if they can't attend their trying this is the talking look beautiful and her best flower silk kimono as soon as boarded up for you she promised to talk to her or those beautiful gown and her mother said a girl your age should have won the doctor thinks her mother for lightly but she didn't hear back about racing with the team in junior high drawings of happy people to doctor forgot her Secret for a while she let them right Joy of the Season watch for worries away at the end of the day to go home and see one is above the door where the good luck symbols he had put there to protect them drinking in here sing bad happen stop right here and ask a question like this do you think the author is giving us any clues right now talking about good things happening or bad things happening think about sadako's secret what do you think is going to happen with the sacrum share your thinking allowed my child to speak and to share their thinking and then you can add yours always let your child share their thinking first because if you share yours first they're going to think that that's the right answer instead of willing to share what they are thinking if that's what we want to encourage is there thinking chapter 4 is a secret no longer for several weeks play like the prayers and good luck symbols and done their job well so I could have a strong and healthy and she ran longer faster but all that ended one Chris cold winter day in February Sedaka was running in the schoolyard suddenly everything seemed to world around her and she sank to the ground one of the teachers rust over to yes I'm just tired so that I could see voice but you try to stand over legs went wobbly and she fell down again the teacher sent mitsui home to tell mr. Sasaki he left his Barbershop Sadako to the Red Cross Hospital if they entered the building Sadako sell a Tang of Fear Part of this hospital was especially for those with the atom bomb sickness if you notice the doctor was in an examining where a nurse x-rayed her chest and took some of her blood her back and asks a lot of questions three other doctors came in to look at Sadako one of them shook his head gently stroked her hair that's my child what are you thinking before too much is given away ask them what they're thinking are they making any predictions or they wondering anything right now by now the rest of sedaka's family was at the hospital her parents were in the doctor's office Sadako could hear the murmur of their voices wants her mother cried leukemia but that's impossible sound of that frightened word to doctor put her hands over her ears she didn't want to hear any more of course she didn't have leukemia why the atom bomb had her nurse yasunaga Sadako to one of the hospital rooms and gave her a kind of cotton kimono to wear Sadako I just climbed into bed with her family came in Mississippi put her arms around Sadako you must stay here for a little while she said trying to sound cheerful but I'll come every evening hero promise Mitsuwa DG knob their eyes widened scared I'm really have Adam on Dancing so don't go ask your father it was a troubled look in this was some Takis  but he only said the Conners make some tea paused finis added they might keep you here for a few weeks I can't wait just a dog years she would miss graduation into junior high she would not be part of the racing team Sadako swallowed hard and try not to cry mrs. Sasaki bus drivers to Dhaka cheap. The pillows is smooth the bedspread mr. Sasaki cleared his throat is is there anything you want he asked do not go ahead to go home but when a cold fear grew in her stomach she had heard that many people who went into this Hospital never came out later nurse got the Naga sent the others away so this is Arthur could win and she was alone Sadako buried her face in the pillow and cried for a long time it never before felt so lonely and
